News from Zombieland!

I am happy to report that  my song "Living in a Coma" will be featured in an upcoming Australian feature film called "FROM PARTS UNKNOWN  -  FIGHT LIKE A GIRL"  (slated for release in 2012). The song will be used both in the film and also for associated promotion for the film. Oh did I mention that this film is in a genre all to itself ? It is actually a ZOMBIE, HORROR, WRESTLING, ACTION  film! The director, Daniel Armstrong recently interviewed me about my the song, and my feelings about wrestling zombies (among other things)! You can read that here:

If you want to check out some footage of the film, and read about the creators check out these links:

"Conversations" Magazine

I was recently interviewed for the Mississippi based arts/culture/politics magazine "Conversations" - the questions were interesting, focussing on motivations and definition of success. You can read it here:

Open Hearts Collaboration

I recently had the chance to lend a hand to the new Open Hearts Society record - a new group which consists of core members Chris Brown (producer of "Storm in a Teacup", ex Bourbon Tabernacle Choir), Eric Schenkman (Spin Doctors) and Wolfe Island singer Sarah McDermott.

I was buzzed  to contribute some vocals to the song "Waiting on Love" from their debut album "Love in Time", as well as to add some vocals  to their contribution to the new Waterkeepers compilation record - a remake of the Talking Heads classic "Once In A Lifetime". They are gigging regularly in Toronto and elsewhere so do yourself a favour and go see them!

"Love in Time" features the likes of Anton Fier, Aaron Comess, Sarah Harmer, Kate Fenner,  Emily Fennell and Joan Wasser and is well worth a listen. Check out the record and their upcoming gigs here:

Charting on BROADJAM!

I was interested to get an email from the good folks at BROADJAM recently telling me that a couple of my songs had made their top ten charts.

For those who don't know BROADJAM is one of the world's largest web communities catering to independent musicians. The site has an online database of over 300,000 searchable songs and is home to approximately 85,000 artists from all over the world.

Reflecting the crazy muti-genre nature of my songs I am bewildered (but proud) to annouce that LIVING IN A COMA is currently at number 4 on the ROCK - NEW WAVE chart, and the instrumental version of the same song is sitting at number 3!

The instrumental version of "SET IT FREE (AFRO-ASTRO MIX)" is sitting at number 10 in the JAZZ- FUSION chart.

I have no idea what this  all means but I DO know I am the only artist on BROADJAM with a top ten placement in both the Rock - New Wave and Jazz Fusion charts!!!!

iStars Talent Contest

On the strength of my song "Don't Go", I was selected as one of seven finalists in the Band - Pop/Rock category of the iSTARS TALENT CONTEST. I  performed on February 6th (2011) and came up with  the runners-up position. It was an interesting experience - complete with "Idol" style judges - luckily they were way more useful in terms of feedback then some of the Idol judges! The judges were Blair Holder, Brian Allen, and Kate Atwater - all very thoughtful and constructive!

National Playlists

My song "Don't Go" was chosen to be in the Postmedia National Playlist - promoted for download in 1, 025, 000 major daily newspapers across Canada.

I was also happy to discover in that "Don't Go" has been added to the "Songwriters' Association of Canada (SAC) CBC Radio 3 Member's Playlist". The forty songs on this newly compiled list of featured SAC members can be seen and heard here:

Songwriting Competition Success

I was pleased to see that my song "Don't Go" has done well in another Song Contest - this time the IRL Music Consultants MIDEM FRANCE 2011 CONTEST, as judged by Juergen Kramar from Universal Music Germany. "Don't Go" reached the FINALS of this worldwide competition.

It was included on a compilation of some really great music which was compiled by IRL to market at MIDEM, including some tracks by a bunch of movies stars like Johhny Depp and Brad Pitt (if you can believe that!)

"Don't Go" also reached semi-final status in the 2010 Dallas Songwriters Association Songwriting Contest,  while "Living in a Coma" gained an Honourable Mention in the 2010 Billboard World Song Contest.

A few of the songs on "Storm in a Teacup" have been selected for possible future licensing considerations.

Fundraising Concerts

Thanks to all who came out and supported the "Songwriters Showcase for Palliative Care" on Sunday January 23rd. Bud's on the Bay was packed and not only was the music (from myself, Pat Johnson, and Ashley Armstrong) well received, but we raised $800 for Palliative Care service at Brockville General Hospital. I also performed at the 30 Hour Telethon (not just me thank goodness) which raised $175,000. Hooray! If you want to see some footage of the event click here: http://www.brocknews.ca/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4757:songwriters-showcase-raises-800-for-palliative-care-sunday&catid=44:local-news&Itemid=162

This past summer I performed in Hardy Park in Brockville to raise funds for the Parkinsons Society of Ottawa. This cause is dear to my heart as my Dad was afflicted with this condition for many years.

The concert was a great success with over $650 raised. Thanks to all who attended for their generous support!

"In Love with a Girl" hits Broadway! (well kind of....)

"In Love with a Girl" - the song from the album which deals with unrequited heterosexual love, was featured this summer in the play "The Dating Scheme" by east coast playwright Jonah Anderson. "The Dating Scheme" ran in July and August at the Kings Playhouse in Georgetown, Prince Edward Island.

Rock legend comments on Robert Graham's version of his song!

It was a major thrill for me to recently be in contact with Todd Hunter of the famous NZ/Aus band "Dragon". I sent him a copy of "Storm in a Teacup" in order to guage his reaction to my version of "Sunshine" which was one of Dragon's many monster hits down under.

It was a personal thrill for me when THIS reaction came back, and I quote:

"This album rocks. It's a soulful outing from Robert Graham and we (Dragon) love his version of Sunshine."

Thanks Todd, and for those of you North Americans out there who have yet to discover Dragon you can check them out at http://www.dragononline.com.au/
